MDA Poker Run, Bike Night/After Party Set For May 3

The Cape Coral Professional Fire Fighters and EMS of Lee County are partnering with Harley-Davidson of Fort Myers for an inaugural MDA poker run with a bike night after party on May 3.

Tim Clark, MDA event organizer and engineer paramedic for the Cape Coral Fire Department, said local firefighters have supported the MDA for the past 55 years. Firefighter continue to hold boot drives throughout Lee County.

This year, in an effort to step up their support, the firefighters have added the poker run in hope of reaching their ultimate goal for the year of $25,000.

“When we hold the boot drives sometimes people don’t have the money on them to donate so we figure this was another way to help people donate to the cause,” said Clark. “We are doing this to help supplement the boot drives.”

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency providing information and supporting research into neuromuscular diseases, including Muscular Dystrophy.

The poker run will begin with registration at 11 a.m. There is an initial $20 donation for the driver and $10 for a passenger hand. “You get five cards for the $20 registration fee and another five cards for the $10 passenger hand,” said Clark.

Card stops on the run include Ball Breakers Sports Bar, Bubba’s Roadhouse and Saloon, The Joint and Scorz Sports Bar and Grill.

The last card will be given out at 4:30 p.m. when riders will meet back at Harley Davidson. Prizes for first, second, third and the worst poker hand will be awarded by Harley Davidson.

Once riders meet back up after the poker run, there will be a opportunity for a combination bike night and after party celebration on the premises at Harley Davidson.

“We have a band coming in called Punched Onion, which is made up of Lee County firefighters and paramedics,” said Clark. “They play ’80s rock and new style rock.”

Beer and food will be available for purchase and proceeds from the beer sales also will go toward the MDA charity.

“This is going be a a great event and it goes for a good cause,” said Clark. “And if people don’t have a motorcycle they can come in a car or just come to the after party.”
