Cape Coral business owners turned out in full force at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Tuesday night to accept the 2008 Best of Cape Coral honors, hosted by Breeze Newspapers.
The awards represented the best the Cape has to offer in restaurants, businesses and services. There were more than 50 awards given to smiling business owners and their representatives.
“Tonight is about more than just awards. It is the recognition by our readers, your customers, of the quality of your service and products, and the effectiveness of your marketing,” said Daily Breeze Advertising Director Peter Jackson to the audience. “It is a tribute to the small businesses which are the heart of the Cape Coral economy, and indeed, the American economy.”
More than 10,000 votes were returned from a reader’s poll that went out a few weeks ago. The winners were decided by the opinions of Cape Coral citizens.
Barbara Hosack, who’s Frame Gallery and Gifts won for Best Art Gallery, is honored to continually be among the best in the Cape. She knows its a distinction that must be given by the people.
“This is our third year and we are pleased as punch,” Hosack said. “We hang it [the award] up above the counter when we win. After all, we can’t vote ourselves in.”
Some of the small business winners that joined Hosack were:
— Just Dancin’: Best Dance Studio
— Salon at Club Square: Best Salon
— PC Tech: Best Computer Service
— Metz Funeral Home: Best Funeral Home
— Franzese Plumbing: Best Plumbing
The awards are a celebration of the continued success of Cape Coral business, and a positive direction for the Cape Coral Redevelopment Agency’s “Keep it in the Cape” campaign, aimed at keeping business — and dollars generated by those businesses — on this side of the bridge.
“We live here, we work here. Let’s shop here, dine here and keep business here in Cape Coral,” said CRA Marketing Manager Helen Ramey.
Ramey went on to say that one of the CRA’s main focuses is to develop downtown Cape Coral as a viable destination for shopping and dining, to keep people from driving “not through downtown, but to downtown.”
